NORTHWEST FLORIDA SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA // SPRING 2015
I have been invited to take the position of Conductor for the NFSYO in Niceville, FL. The NFSYO is a function of Northwest Florida State College, where I am currently on the adjunct music faculty. This is a project unlike any other I have taken on, and I am so excited to begin. Youth symphony was one of the most important parts of my musical upbringing and it is my biggest goal to have the NFSYO be a place for comfortable, inspiring learning for everyone involved.
MUSICAL HERITAGE EXCHANGE // MAY 2014
My friend and colleague cellist Jonathan Cain and I traveled to the remote mountain kingdom of Bhutan for a tour of performances and educational presentations about the past 1,200 years of western music. Our project was fully funded by a corporate sponsor. While we were in Bhutan, we learned very much from the culture, and from a group of Bhutanese master musicians that took us in, welcomed us, and taught us about what life is like for a musician of the highest level in Bhutan. Going forward, Jon and I are researching the role of music in the youth community, and how the government's relationship to this role is tethered to both the preservation of ancient instrumental musical traditions and the chance for its evolution into the future of Bhutanese culture.
EMERGING COMPOSERS FORUM // APRIL 2014
I was honored to work with some wonderful young composers for this first concert of what will hopefully become a series. The concert took place in one of my favorite DC venues, the Atlas Theatre. I was honored to work with some really great musicians on this one.
PHILADELPHIA FRINGE FESTIVAL // SEPTEMBER 2013
The Cambitas Quartet (Jamie Chimchirian, myself, Emily Cantrell, and Jonathan Cain) joined the Philadelphia-based New Street Dance Group in a live collaborative performance of Alberto Ginastera's String Quartet no. 2. The performance, part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, took place in a lovely historic church in downtown Philadelphia, PA.
